Genetic Lifeform and Disk Operating System out of control

October 1st, 2007 - One of Cave Johnson’s final projects was the research and development of brain-mapping technology capable of uploading a person’s complete consciousness into a computer. The goal of the project was to immortalize Cave Johnson’s mind in order to keep Aperture’s operations going well after his death. Having failed to meet this goal, Cave had left one last directive: Should his mind not be backed up on a computer, work should begin on putting Caroline’s mind into a computer instead.

The project has proven to be problematic. While the genetic lifeform and disk operating system (GLaDOS) shows signs of awareness, it displays extremely sociopathic tendencies. Within a tenth of a picosecond of booting up, the GLaDOS will flood the immediate vicinity with a deadly neurotoxin. The gas has proven fatal to three scientists.

Efforts to stop this rampant behavior is slow, having only twenty-year-old equipment to work with. The team has managed to create a set of four morality cores to serve as separate consciences for the A.I., as well as an additional intelligence-dampening core to further avert sociopathic tendencies. The efficiency of these efforts are questionable at best. The GLaDOS now becomes lethal within a sixteenth of a picosecond, rather than a tenth. This improvement is incredibly negligible, and should be considered a failure

At the time of writing, Aperture Laboratories should be deemed unsafe for further human endeavors. All facilities are under permanent lockdown, and investors are urged to steer clear of Aperture Science until further notice.
